Visualization methods

Visualization methods

Visualization is a general term, and there are many forms and methods of visualization. The key questions are: Are you visualizing for yourself or for others? Does the whole thing take place in the studio or live on site? Is the visualization accompanied from the sidelines or is the focus on the visualization? Will the visualization take place in a group or in a two-person constellation? Depending on this, there are different methods and concepts that I have transferred into a family tree.

Visualisierungsmethoden.

Thought sketching/scribbling: In thought sketching, your own thoughts are visualized. These can be spontaneous associations, but also structured classifications.

Sketchnotes: In sketchnoting, the visualizer records external impulses for themselves, often in a sketchbook. What are the key messages? What is my personal take-away? Like taking notes, only more visual.

Graphic recording: The graphic recorder records the content of an event for the participants. Often on a large poster. But increasingly also digitally on an iPad

Visual facilitation: A shared image is created in dialog with the participants during a workshop or meeting. The process and the knowledge gained are often more important than the concrete image that is created.

Flipchart design: During training, the trainer often uses visualizations that they have already created.

Business illustration: First there is a briefing between the client and the illustrator, then sketches and feedback, before the final elaboration takes place. The end result can be a ” big picture ” or strategy image, but also an illustration or graphic for the website.

Coaching/consulting: Consultants and coaches often use models or metaphorical card sets instead of drawing something themselves. Sometimes something is spontaneously scribbled during coaching/counseling.

Explanatory video: An explainer video The end result is self-explanatory and is usually viewed individually and with a time delay.
